Joint Pains - symptom, Treatment of Joint Pains

A common complaint especially in the elderly, joint pains may signal underlying disease. While most joint pains are the result of inappropriate stresses and strains loading weakened joint surfaces, others could be caused by slow destructive diseases of the tissues within and around joints.

Symptoms of Joint Pains

If you suffer from joint pains, this check list will help: Is the pain in the joint or around the joint?

Sign and symptoms In the joint:

  • Pain is felt when you move the joint (active movement) + when you try to move it with your hand (passive movement).
  • Swelling or deformity is more likely. .
  • feeling of the joint being "loose" or "unstable".
  • In the knee this may be experienced as buckling".
  • A click or gritty crackling sound may be heard when moving the joint.
  • Pressing around the joint is not painful unless the painful joint is red, hot and swollen (inflamed).

Sign and symptoms Around the joint: .

  • Active movement is painful.
  • Passive movement is not, unless the area is inflamed.
  • Pressing lightly around the painful area causes severe pain at certain points, even far away from the joint.
  • Besides the swelling of inflammation, there is seldom any other deformity of contour.

Treatment of Joint Pains

If you think it is the joint, Is onejoint painfUL or many of them? Are they the 'large'jointsor the smaller ones of wrist, hand and ankles and feet? Or is it the back that hurts?

Many speciific types of arthritis have specific areas of affliction. Except in the case of very small children, multiple joint pain is
unlikely to have an infective cause and is usually a sign of generalized joint disease.

How long have you had it? First bout, and recent onset: an infective cause is likely, especially if theres a swelling and youre running a fever and feeling ill. Or was there some injury youve forgotten about? If youve had it for more than a month, or have had several bouts of the problem, you may have a joint disease that needs investigation.
