A demyelinating disease affecting the nervous system, more
common in temperate climates, but also seen in India. It
affects 1.1 million worldwide.
MS does have a genetic basis, but the mode of inheritance is
not clear. It affects multiple body systems. Mainly affects young adults (teens/mid-thirties).
Symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis
- Double vision
- bluring of vision
- fatique
- unsteadyness, frequent los of balance
- nerve pain
- memory loss
Treatment of Multiple Sclerosis
Multiple Sclerosis disease may either follow a course of
remission-relapse apparent recovery only to be followed by
reappearance of symptoms.
Although treatment is available to reduce the severity, the
disease cannot be cured.
The long course of the 'illness and the yoUth of its victims
make it a top priority for research and innovation.
