Menopause - symptom, Treatment of Menopause
Menopause Information
The final episode of menstrual bleeding in women is termed
Menopause.Menopuase describes the period of transition
during which the body adjusts to declining ovarian function.
Symptoms and Causes of Menopause
- The average age for menopause is 50, but it can vary by a few
years before or after.
- Menopause occurs because all the ovarian follicles are used
up.
- It marks the end of reproductive life. .Estrogen and progesterone levels in the blood fall, but these
are not totally absent.
- During reproductive life, 60% estrogen is formed by the
ovaries, as estradiol.
The remaining estrogen (estrone) comes from the conversion
of androgens by non-ovarian tissue, like fat.
After menopause, this non-ovarian source of estrogen increases.
- Fat depots in the body are the estrogen factories of
postmenopausal women.
More than 50% of women experience discomfort during
menopause. These discomforts are:
- Hot flashes
- Giddiness and blackouts
- Irritability and anxiety
- Vaginal dryness
- Loss of elasticity of the skin
- Osteoporosis
Treatment for Menopause
- Women experiencing such symptoms should consult their
doctor.
- Phytoestrogens (soya) may carty the same risks as estrogen
replacement therapy.
- With expert counseling and supportive treatment, most
women accept the changes of menopause as a necessaty change
and milestone in life.
